Hey Tessa, I will follow you on BGH cant wait to see the progress, to see the difference in the training and methods used by us flat landers, on our game, bobs and bear, so far, one thing is common, they must handle and have mannors, before they see game. Also thanks for offering this on face book, I know it wont be rated R like it ends up here, and my 14 year old daughter will be able to learn from you there, thanks again, And thank you Buddy for cleaning it up, hope it can stay that way,Ron

I had never ran so fast in my life!! Mattie ended up killing it and boy let me tell you she stunk for days. I am not affraid of lions, bears, or anything else, but after that incident I am terrified of skunks.

 BHP, it's "just" a smell! C'mon, it ain't THAT bad!

Generations ago, I was welding for this guy who had a tranny/exhaust shop in Cheyenne. It was the "friday nights" gathering location. One friday, just about to call it an evening when Mike rolled up in his El Camino to show off his brand new interior. Needless to say he was 1/2 way to sh*tfaced! Anyways, Larry the owner, had a bottle of skunk oil for trapping handy. Larry unscrewed the cap, and handed it to Mike explaining how it was a "perfume that would drive girls crazy". Mike didn't take 2 seconds to smell it, he just DUMPED IT ALL OVER HIS NEW CARPET! And off he drove. I talked to Mike the next day, who reportedly PUKED, and HEAVED, and RALPHED all the way home!
Aww, the good times.....

  too funny. I had another incedent with a skunk back in 98 when I lived on a ranch in Kaycee. I was living in a trailer house and every morning I would wake up and my garbage in the kitchen would be knocked over. I thought it was a ferral cat coming in through the vents as one of the vent covers would be knocked off. So one night I waited up and heard the garbage being knocked over. I went out to the kitchen and saw it was a skunk. I went and grabbed my 5 yr old son Brandon and locked us in my bedroom till the morning. I screwed all the vents closed that next day. Seems there was a family of them living under the trailer. They got to stinking and I moved out.

I HATE SKUNKS!!

All right Tessa,
There shouldn't be any reason for unwarranted drama on your thread, so where's the latest achievements from your pup?

benny,

YAY!! I am happy now. :) Unfortunately I just now got off work. I only had time to road her for about 20 minutes today. Kinda sux working 6 days a week. I have been taking her out in the evenings after work, but got stuck tonight because a coworker asked me to step in. So hopefully this weekend I will have more of our little adventures. :)

OKay guys, I took Bella out tonight into Jacob's Canyon here on the ranch. I have to say this was our best time yet. :) I took some videos. They are about 10 minute long each. She did reall really good tonight I was sure impressed with her trailing ability. I also learned she is a gamey little thing too as when we were walking out she had not one but two rabbit races   I let her go :)

Cool BHP, I'm glad you're feeling at ease.

Now though, what about buying some lure and making some drags with a scent filled dummy?
Is it too early?

K, now I'll watch your videos.

Hey now, wait a minute. Go set one of those cages and TRAP something. Don't worry right now what "might" be in the trap, just do it.

Dubl_t,

I never have been one for laying drags. To me it is unnatural and a waste of time unless you are messing with little 3 month old pups. JMO

I have been debating on trying to catch a coon, but haven't really had time to go scout out a place to try to trap one. Work has been using me like a pack horse during Elk season. I have been doing my best to cut out at 5 and hope the thunderstorms hold off so I can get her out in the evenings. I am sure that with the way she hunts and the desire to do so we will get a race going on something good. I have trained a ton of pups in the last 10 years or so and this little blue dog has what it takes to be a top lion hound. Got to get her in the rocks more, but that also comes with age and experience. Yesterday she really impressed me with what she did on the video. I think this was her 6th or 7th time out. I see a huge difference in her since I started with her. Her confidence is growing and her instincts to hunt are kicking in and driving her on. That is what I look for in a pup. It all comes together in time and miles.

Okay back from the mountain. Didn't find ANY cat sign. :( Stupid cattle were everywhere which made things difficult and distracting for Bella. Really need to get a shock collar! Quickest way for a dog to lose it's life here in Wyoming is chasing cattle. Found a pile of wolf crap that was not very old. Had to keep her close to me cause I am paraniod of them. Found some yummy raspberries. Did a little rockchuck shooting. Good target practice. Hiked for hours in some really good elk country, but really didn't see anything but more stupid cows. :( Bella did go on a speed goat trash run and really opens up on track. lol We covered a bit of ground, but there is just too much property for one person to cover in a days time. I have never seen a pup with so much stamina and is so fast. She keeps going and going. Took a few pictures and videos :) Was good mountain therapy just to get out there and have a change of scenary. :)

Man, that piney, ledgey canyon in your pics looks sure to have a kitty or two in it.

Yep, and I took that photo on the way off the mountain. That is on the other side of the road from the ranch property in the Ten Sleep Preserve...... of course cant hunt there. :( The ranch surrounds that though so they are bound to come out of there. Seriously though it would take me days to cover all 25,000 acres they have on this ranch. Wish I had more than one day off a week. Posted some videos on facebook. :) By the way out of curiosity someone tell me if this is what I think it is?

It looks like a bear bait station to me.

Benny,

Yep, and well I know in this area where I found it fall bear season just opened today, but the barrel hasn't been used in awhile. I am wondering who's it is? Wouldn't be the first time I found bear baits sitting out all summer on this side of the mountain. It wasn't tagged either. Have to have them tagged with your name on it and each area where a bait is placed is recorded for that person so I am wondering if this is an illegal bear bait. Like I said it wouldn't be the first time I found one.  Contrary to people's belief, especially the guy I work for, there are loads of bear around here. Also wolves and lions. I wish the wolves weren't I had to keep Bella within eyesight while I was up there as I found some wolf crap not even 100 yards away from the cabin. Last year I guess the authorities killed one near the same location.
