Wow, some good wisdom for sure.

Not probably wisdom, but I love the ones that exaggerate a dogs faults, like

He would back track to the afterbirth.

He trees before the cat gets there.

I also like to hear hunting dog references in everyday speach, like

Barking up the wrong tree

On the wrong track

Curtail

I remember hearing Arkansas' Bill Clinton saying: "that dog won't hunt". Meaning that doesn't make sense or that won't work. I wish I could remember why he said it. Maybe it was because Hillary was about to tell America that the Bingazi attack was because of a video some kid made in his basement in California. "That dog won't hunt".

Wait a minute we were talking about wisdom. Deffinately off on the wrong track.

My grandpa told me when I first got into hounds "every cat you kill, there will be one less next time to find"

That reminds me; thirty five years or so ago, I heard the teen aged Buddy Dwyer scold his father Bill who was about to pull up and shoot a coon out to the dogs. I know he said it because of the values his father had instilled.

He didn't use the words "you idiot" but he deffinately used the "you idiot" tone when he said "OK great!! What are we going to hunt tomorrow night?!?!?

I have probably written this before as well. One of the advantages of a poor memory: Everything is new.

But this is some serious advice that could change someone's life for the better.

Pat Melloy was speaking to me about trying to locate a top dog to buy.

He said

"don't look for the exceptional dog. Look for the exceptional man"

"Find the man and you will find the dog"

He actually was referring to John Wick from whom he had bought more than one "dog of a lifetime".

As i set here looking out the window and cussing the rain it reminds me that this is what real Oregon weather is all about .The dry winters we've had for the last 15-20 years may be over.
As a teenager i use to hunt with Dude Reed and he had a favorite saying on the nasty weekends we were trying to hunt. He'd say"Sure would be nice if we could pick the days we got to hunt on ."
He was displaying a little envy for some guys we knew who didn't work ,just hunted all winter.

I've learned long time ago, Don't ever brag up a dog until it's dead!

They sure know how to make you look like a fool at just the right times.

A man will never own a good dog if he can't cull a sorry one...

Good dogs are born not made, not much can be added after their born it's up to you to hone their ability....

A dog can't learn anything in the box or on the chain....

It cost the same to feed a sorry dog as it does a good one....

I'm sure some more will pop into my memory shortly.
