Stitch is pretty much on his death bed but he got er done last night and I am damn proud of his effort. He looks terrible and has lost 24 pounds over this deal. Its been a long hard road but we hope that he is gonna come out of it. Anyhow, I hope this worked.

We tryin to make more like him.

Happy to announce that 5 of these pressure dogs have just been tried and proven on African Lion. We saddly lost the broken coated male " Bush " to one of the Lion the others are fine and came out okay. They put the heat on the jumped cats and got them overheating on the run forcing them to make a stand.

These dogs and the trail hounds stood back well and circled the big cats out at about 5-6 metres. The terriers were obviously in and out and all over the place.I realised the importance of making the first shot a knock out killing shot as these big cats can inflict lethal one bite terminating kills on any sized dog. When a shot is fired the hounds want to make contact and do. Only luck prevented more injuries.

Takes 6 strong men to load one male lion on a pickup - gives you an idea.

Congratulations! That is very cool!! I've wanted to ask if hounds have ever been used on African Lions, and how successful they were. That’s an amazing picture. How much does one of those things weigh? Thanks so much for the info.

i could be wrong, but i believe a brit named corbett used hounds to catch tigers in india.
i know laika types have been used in korea, manchuria & siberia. i saw video a LOOONG time ago (think before CDs & DVDs) of siberians catching tigers for SOVIET scientists for study. they used a pack of laikas and than rode up on horses w/ a net stretched between them and caught the tigers. it was one of the coolest things i ever saw.

All lion hunting in South Africa is done behind a high fence and in most cases the cat is not in a very big enclosure...
I booked a hunt there a couple years ago to hunt a lion with the undrestanding the cat was in a huge enclosure 25000 acres and had been in there for over 6 months...
Not so, the cat was turned out the morning I went on the hunt.I was not supposed to know this but the PH and the crew screwed up and I found out and refused to do the hunt.

Roy ,How big of an enclosure are these lions in that you are turning your dogs on ?
Not much of a hound hunt guys...more of a big money maker for the PH and an ego trip as to how good the hounds are..

Tell the truth on this ...it is not a hunt ....where can the lion go???
he's in a enclosure and there is no getting away...
The hound hunting world does not need the public to see hounds turned out to chase lions or any wildlife behind a high fence, it should be illegal to do it ,and the PH's wonder why they are trying to close lion hunting in SA????

Thunderhorn it IS illegal to hunt Lion with hounds in South Africa (unless declared problem animals by the Department of Environmental affairs) and 2 such fine trophy males on the same hunt is confirmation that it was an 'enclosure' hunt.

There is a fierce debate continuing in South Africa surrounding the hunting of enclosure bred Lion for trophy hunting.Some believe farming the cats is no different than ranching cattle for beef and will supply a demand for Lion trophies that a wild population can no longer support - others believe it is not possible to regard this as a 'hunt' and the practice is only economically benefiting select individuals whom do not have a regard for the integrity of the hunting industry's ethical image.

Make up your own mind - 1 thing remains true; tracking hounds are the most selective and reliable method of dealing with problem animals, it is only the handler that requires clear administration.
