Bear stuff

Post by ricky_arthur »

Doesn't seem to be much action on the Boards, Here are some bear pics and Video to look at. All from August and September hunts.

A short Video of Mattie, Hammer, Brace and Knight under a bear that had about run thier legs off. I got out in from of them and after listening for about 20 minutes was about to start honking to call them off when I heard them go treed. A 5 minute walk to a tree is a rare treat.

and some pics of various bears and dogs on tree

Thats all the pics I felt like resizing and down loading at the moment :D Alot of the bears on this side of the mountain I have seen 2 or 3 times in a tree over the last couple months. Some of them are fun especially good ol # 132. The bottom bear pic, She has an ear tag with #132 on it and trees pretty easy. :D

Ricky, dogs look like they are doing a great job. Are any of them out of the Sampson dog you told me about a year or so ago?

Thanks,

Dan, yes. Hammer and Brace are out of Sampson and Mattie. And Knight is out of Sampson and Tess. Both of the Females are Washburn bred dogs.

I have hunted with a couple of Washburn dogs in the past and liked them. I have also heard good things about Sampson. Looks like you are onto a good thing. Keep it going!

I think Kevin posted some pictures over on another site, all I have seen is video, I don't have any pictures. Kevin can help you there.

But it's some pretty sweet video. :) One was just a bear, the other was a big 'ol bear. I heard it had been aged at over 25 years old.

We whacked another one this past week here on Nebo, pics on my other computer. Happy hunting!!

Biggamehunter. Thanks. On the bears pictured, If I get the order correct the first bear was Brace Hammer and Rage. All three are litter mates but I sold rage to a buddie and was hunting her for him. A couple other dogs were put out but got on another bear. The second bear was treed By Rage, and Brodie (the same buddies dogs) and My 4 dogs Brace Hammer, Mattie and Knight. The funny thing about that one was we were cleaning up the dogs from a bear we had treed earlier in the day. Since we were headed home and it was late afternoon we were simply tossing dogs into the back of the truck but had not clipped any in or put any in the box. We had just 1 dog left to find so We went up the raod to look for it and the truck with the dogs went down. about 10 minutes Later, the truck comes back with NO DOGS. the driver was our hunter and he had this sheepish look on his face. He was driving down the road and the dogs struck pretty hard, so he got out to look for a track. next thing he knows dogs are streaming past him and the truck is empty. :D  Luckily they treed that one not to far up dry wash canyon and all the dogs were there so we still made it home in time for dinner. :D

The 3rd bear (the one with the ear tag and this was the second time I had treed her having treed her the week before with Mattie Brace and hammer)was treed by Mattie alone, while the other dogs were working a bear that kept jumping.
The second to last bear was just My 4 dogs With Mattie and Hammer cold trailing that bear for about an hour before they kicked it out, when I got to the tree, all 4 dogs were there but I don't know at what point the other 2 joined in.
The Last bear we only put down Hammer Rage and Knight to see how the young dogs did alone. Knight came off when it crossed the road (she is only a year)But Hammer and Rage bayed and held, then later treed the bear before we put any other dogs down. They are starting to click pretty good.

Houndawg I heard you guys had taken a real big bear. Congrats. 25 years old sounds like a Charlie story :D , but I heard from several sources that it was a toad, so good job. Did it take you on a pretty good chase? We Took 2 big boars in the spring hunt but I have yet to see a "BIG" boar this fall hunt. To many small bears for the dogs to peal off onto.

Ricky,

I wasn't there on the hunt. My dogs were but I was home working and taking care of the newborn. That guy Charlie was there but the fellar who aged the bear was from up north somewhere.

All I know is what I saw on the video, but the bear they whacked the next day was the real good watching... wounded and on the ground fighting. It's some wild video. Take care.

'Ol BNG sure caught a bunch down there this year. Maybe next year I'll join him. :)
